Arborealis Landscape Design Company Profile & Philosophy

Arborealis was officially launched in August of 2003. Arthur Brito, owner of Arborealis, received a Bachelors of Science degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Davis. He has experience working at landscape architecture and landscape design/build firms in both the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Area - all of the firms specializing in residential landscape design as well as unique outdoor eating areas for restaurants.

Arborealis is founded upon the philosophy that the architecture of the site, be it the home, restaurant, or office, is one with the landscape. When properly designed the two entities work off of one another to create an overall unity to the site. The primary step in this process is to play off the angles of the building: Analyzing views entering and leaving the site, using sitelines and centerlines from and towards the building, and matching materials with the architecture.

By designing a landscape that reflects the architecture, Aborealis creates a cohesive site where the architecture and landscape become one. The landscape becomes a complement to and extension of the home.


With this philosophy in mind, Arborealis does not limit itself to one particular style or theme of design, but rather draws upon them as influences to create a unique design that is, at once, aesthetically pleasing and correct, and is as well functional and satisfying to the owner's outdoor relaxation and entertainment needs.

As with most things, budget often determines the scope of what is possible in creating a landscape design. However, the approach Arborealis takes to budgetary constraints is that they should not determine the overall design. Thus, whether the client is planning to hire a contractor to build the project or is planning to take on the construction themselves, working with Arborealis, one can develop on overall Master Plan, specifying all aspects of what will eventually go into the site and then plan to phase in each of those aspects.

With a full set of construction drawings created by Arborealis, together we can determine which of those aspects can be built in which phase. This will not only satisfy immediate needs, but also allow for ease of construction of the future portions of the project.
