AMONG THE CANOPIES

An old rotting deck created the opportunity to rethink and expand the homeowners’ use of their rear yard. While still needing to compensate for the steep grade, an expansive new deck is coupled with a solid patio supported by retaining walls, yielding nearly double the usable space.

The deck’s casual dining and lounge area is finished in a maintenance-free composite wood material, while the stainless steel cable rails seemingly disappear, giving way to the views of the tree canopies. Atop the adjacent concrete patio, the outdoor kitchen and formal dining area is flanked by the custom water feature with a basin low enough to put your feet in to cool off. The space is completed with a gas fireplace and adjacent built-in seating, ensuring comfortable and warm time spent well into the cool evening.
