Tropical Retreat

The homeowners came from big families, and they wished for their newly designed landscape to serve as the site of many large family gatherings, despite the somewhat modest sized space. Critical tasks of the design were to create an outdoor kitchen with bar counter, as well as finding a good home for the homeowners’ tiki hut. From this tropical lair, they and their guests could sit and enjoy cocktails while being surrounded by the tropical plantings and looking out onto the nearby koi pond and waterfall. Mortared decorative flagstone elements accent the stamped colored concrete patios, and a gas firepit patio serves not only as means of keeping people warm on cooler evenings, but the seatwall around it also serves as built-in seating for any time of day.
